Weston Photography Newsletter - October 2008
Greetings!
Kim and I have been really busy these past few months, mainly
raising money for our Scholarship Fund. It has been so
successful and we want to send out all of our thanks to everyone
that participated in the auction and that came to our
Weston/Jeffers Events. They were fabulous!
The end of October is approaching fast with Halloween in sight.
Halloween used to be a "big" event for us. But now that our son
is 18! We have shifted our priorities - like ordering cap and
gowns, searching for colleges and attending many high school
meetings. We are sad that our 4 years of watching Water polo
will soon be over, we still have 2 more sports to go and there
is still a lot of time in the year but it feels very short. Soon
our beloved son will be off to college. Where does all of the
time go? We will cherish these next few months and hold them
close to our hearts.
October Print of
the Month
We are getting closer to completing the 2008 Print of the Month
Portfolio. The October Print of the Month "Nude & Fish" (not a
very imaginative name but you'll get the picture) can be viewed
on our POM Page. This image was made during Kim's cut out phase
where he was doing all kinds of magical things in his studio.
Take a look, it is a wonderful imaginative photograph!
After the October POM there are only 2 more photographs/months
to go! If you have been thinking of joining now is the time. You
have seen most of the images. When you join the POM Club the
print price breaks down to $175 per photograph that is less than
half of the $400 retail price! What a bargain and you get a
beautiful portfolio box to house your collection in. Just think
one print for every month of the year. You could swap the image
out and keep the remaining prints safely stored away. Contact me
if you are interested in
signing up.
Oct. 24 Show at Center for Photographic
Art
Let's Celebrate in Carmel, Friday, October 24, 6PM to 8PM
Don't forget about the reception this Friday night for the
ongoing show at the Center for Photographic Art; Photographs "In
Conversation with Robinson Jeffers", curated by us! Along with
the CPA we invited over 30 local artists to be a part of this
exhibition in conjunction with The Big Read - The Poetry of
Robinson Jeffers. Yes another Jeffers event! The artists were
asked to submit 3 images and to select either a poem or a few
lines by Jeffers for each photographic response and identify it
for inclusion in the wall labels. The response was enthusiastic
and the show is fabulous!
It will be a great way to celebrate the new volunteer board of
trustees. The new members have devoted countless hours in their
efforts to save the Center from closing and they are doing a
terrific job. To raise monies to help support the CPA, these
local artists are coming together once again to show their
support. All of the photographs in the show are for sale, and
the artists are donating either a portion or all of the raised
money back to the center!!!
Lets celebrate our community and the new board by coming out on
Friday night to help save the Center. After all it was founded
by Kim's dad, Cole Weston and Ansel Adams over forty years ago.
Lets help turn it back into a community center. It is a
worthwhile investment.
