Join photographers Kim
Weston and Huntington Witherill for this three-day intensive workshop to be
held on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula, May 9-11, 2008.
Once you’ve mastered control of your tools and materials, the next step for
any photographer will inevitably be that of working toward developing a
personal photographic style. There are many reasons why the best known
photographers consistently produce work that is, stylistically, instantly
recognizable. And, despite the fact that it can take many years to develop a
distinctive approach, there are a number of insights and techniques that can
help to speed the process along. This workshop will focus on helping
participants gain the insight and skills necessary to further develop their
own unique photographic approach.
The workshop is designed for photographers working with either conventional
and/or digital tools and materials. You’ll have an opportunity to visit both
instructors’ home studios where each will take you, step-by-step, through
their entire working process. You’ll also have an opportunity to work in the
field with both. And finally, there will be extensive discussion and
critique of each participant’s work.
With a combined working experience of more than seventy-five years, Weston
and Witherill have each taken completely different paths toward the common
goal of developing a personal and recognizable photographic style. Weston
has worked predominately using a conventional film-based approach, while
Witherill has taken the digital approach. Yet, each of these artists has
maintained an unwavering passion and commitment to the medium, and each has
developed a uniquely recognizable style.
