Weston Photography's 2022 Wildcat Studio Nude and Big Sur Workshop
Our September 2022 Wildcat Studio Nude and Big Sur Workshop was nothing short of inspirational. We saw some amazing collaborations between the group and there were some powerful images created. What’s fun about a four day workshop is that we have the chance to view each others’ work twice, which we believe is critical in evolving as an artist. It is always fun to see the progression of the work as everyone gets comfortable with the models and working in a group.
Goblin Goddesss, Anoush Anou and Vivian Cove modeled flawlessly over the weekend offering some very inspirational poses for the photographers. This was our first time working with Goblin and she was a real treat to work with. She brought amazing energy to the workshop and we are looking forward to working with her again in the future! The group was a fun mix of returning photographers and new faces. One of the participants had never photographed a nude model before and he came away with some great images.
We strive to create a safe environment for creation at our workshops. At a Weston Workshop, you can dive deep into your creative passions and feel like you can be vulnerable with the work you are looking to create. Our mission is to offer that to our participants and allow them to feel like they can fully express themselves.
Fine Art Figure Models
We always strive to have the utmost professional models at Weston Photography Workshops and this workshop was no exception! Our fine art models during the workshop this past weekend offered so many inspirational poses for our participants. Even without instruction, the models know what to do. They take instruction very well and are keen on understanding what the photographers are looking for when posing.
During this workshop we had two available locations, Wildcat Hill and a private residence in Big Sur. We start the workshop on Wildcat Hill, go to Big Sur, and then finish the workshop on Wildcat Hill. This format allows the photographers and models to get familiar with Wildcat Hill and be able to re-photograph any set ups that they might have missed on Day I. The photographers must think on their feet during the Big Sur location as we only have 4 hours to make things work. I think everyone did super well!
Group Photography Workshop Participants Working
The groups worked super well together and all were able to establish a constructive shooting method so everyone felt that they had ample time photographing. We always encourage group members to set a timer when working so that everyone gets enough time to create. Within the groups, it is essential that there is only one photographer directing at one time. When you have multiple people directing the model, things get confusing and tension rises. Thankfully everyone worked well in the groups!
We also always encourage group participation during the workshop. This means that when one photographer is directing, the other group members are assisting in some way wether it is holding a reflector or even just pointing out things they see within the scene. A lot of props were used which we love to see! The studio on Wildcat Hill is filled with fun stuff and the participants were able to incorporate some interesting objects within their compositions. Using props just further adds to the story that you are creating with your work.
