Celebrating 25 Years at Edward Weston's Home: Our Most Epic Figure Workshop Yet

This past weekend, Weston Photography hosted one of our most memorable Figure Workshops to date—an intimate, three-day experience that brought together six passionate photographers, three incredible models, and the breathtaking backdrop of Big Sur and the legendary home of Edward Weston. What unfolded was more than just a workshop; it was a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the enduring spirit of photography.

From the moment participants arrived, the energy was contagious. With cameras in hand and a spark of anticipation in the air, everyone was ready to immerse themselves in the craft.

The first and third days offered something truly special: the opportunity to photograph at Edward Weston’s historic home. Stepping into that space is always a humbling reminder of the lineage of photographers who came before us. To photograph figures in the same rooms and gardens where Weston himself created some of his most iconic work was nothing short of extraordinary. The models, each bringing their own unique presence and artistry, seemed to channel that rich history, while the participants explored ways to balance tradition with their own contemporary vision.

The second day took place at a stunning private residence in Big Sur, where sweeping ocean views and dramatic natural light provided the perfect canvas for figure studies. The models moved gracefully in harmony with the environment—framed by luscious gardens, textured rock, and the ever-changing sky. Participants quickly found themselves inspired, capturing images that blended the human form with the grandeur of the landscape.

Of course, a workshop with Weston Photography would not be complete without thoughtful critique and guidance. Kim Weston led group sessions each day, reviewing participants’ images with care and insight. His critiques went beyond technical adjustments, urging photographers to push their creativity further and to discover the deeper story within their work. For many, these conversations were as transformative as the time spent behind the camera—reminders that photography is as much about seeing and feeling as it is about exposure and composition.

Yet what truly defined this workshop was the sense of community. Between sessions, laughter echoed through kitchens and patios as participants shared meals, stories, and ideas. Bonds formed over late-night conversations and impromptu photo discussions, reinforcing what makes these gatherings so meaningful: they are not just about making photographs, but about building connections with fellow artists who share a passion for the medium.

By the time the final day arrived, participants left not only with a portfolio of striking images, but also with a renewed sense of inspiration. The models, whose artistry and openness made every session possible, were celebrated with gratitude. The settings—Big Sur’s rugged beauty and the timeless energy of Edward Weston’s home—reminded us why place matters so much in shaping creative work. And the guidance of Kim Weston left everyone with new tools and perspectives to carry into their future projects.

Weston Photography Workshop Group 2025

The 2025 Figure Workshop was a powerful reminder of what happens when art, place, and community come together. We look forward to continuing this tradition of creativity, exploration, and joy in the workshops to come. Unfortunately not all of our participants were here for our group photo. We missed you the last day.
