Kim Weston Opens at Ilkaa's Fine Art Gallery in Columbus
Kim Weston Painted Photographs at Ilkaa’s Fine Art Gallery, Columbus, OH
Kim and I traveled to Columbus, Ohio for the Grand Opening of Ilkaa's Fine Art Gallery & Atelier's new home on Saturday, May 16th. Kim has shown with Ilkaa's since the very beginning, and we love the beautifully designed, curated space.
The new location is the Joseph-Cherrington House, an Italianate house built in 1863 in Columbus's Olde Towne East neighborhood, just blocks from the Columbus Museum of Art. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The gallery is owned by photographer Millie Franz, who founded it in 2022 with her daughter Ilkaa, the gallery's curator. Millie's own photography — blending the figure with landscape and light — hangs on the second floor, just above where Kim's work is shown in the inaugural collection. The collection includes Kim's painted photographs and the pieces where Kim has painted over Zach's black-and-white prints, plus Zach's straight black-and-white work on its own. It was good to see all three hanging in the same rooms.
Ilkaa's also carries pieces from their ongoing "From the Archive" collection, including Edward Weston photographs printed by Kim's father, Cole Weston. That's four generations of this family's work in one gallery, now available to see in person outside of California.
The turnout for the opening was great, and it was good to spend the day talking with collectors and visitors about the work face to face. If you're in or passing through Columbus, Ilkaa's Fine Art Gallery & Atelier is at 785 East Broad Street and welcomes visitors by private appointment.
