Ode to Ophelia

from $800.00

Limited Silver Gelatin Print | Part of Kim Weston's Later Works (c. 2021-2025)

This haunting composition captures a woman lying on her back in the tranquil waters of a coastal canyon lake, directly inspired by Shakespeare's tragic character Ophelia from Hamlet. Shot on location at the property where Kim grew up, this silver gelatin print pays homage to Sir John Everett Millais' iconic Pre-Raphaelite painting of the same subject. Kim was fascinated by Millais' beautiful depiction of Ophelia floating in her watery grave, and here he recreates that ethereal, melancholic beauty in his own photographic interpretation, using the natural lake setting to evoke the same sense of tragic poetry.

Hand-printed by Kim Weston in his darkroom using traditional methods on museum-quality fiber paper, mounted on archival mat board. Numbered and signed by the artist.
