2015 February Print of the Month

2015 February Print of the Month

February Print of the Month "Nude and Peacock". Storytelling is one of Kim Weston's favorite things to do while he is photographing. When we were in France a few years ago, after teaching a workshop with photographer Kitty Cohen, we had the wonderful opportunity to photograph in Kitty's home. It is filled with art, antiques and quite a collection of animals. We first met Kitty when she came to the United States for our Studio Nude Workshop here at Wildcat Hill. We had a rich, rewarding experience with her and the result will be the photographs offered for sale in the current 2015 Print of the Month Portfolio. We hope you enjoy viewing the work. More...

2015 January Print of the Month

2015 January Print of the Month

We just released the January 2015 Print of the Month, "Waiting, (Wolf) Paris, France. Join the POM Club or follow along as Kim Weston releases a new photograph to the POM Portfolio every month."The POM Club is a wonderful way to start collecting or add to a growing collection. The fact that it’s Kim Weston with his own considerable body of work that is so highly regarded, and add to that the history of The Westons in the world of fine art photography, you feel that you are making a smart investment as well. To collect the work of one particular artist is not always an easy thing to do, often requiring you to deal with multiple galleries in various states or individuals in the secondary market. The POM Club solves that problem".

In Celebration of the Black and White Print Video

In Celebration of the Black and White Print Video

We hope you enjoy this video. Epson came to our home and interviewed Kim about Black and White Photography and his life experiences. "Journey to the home of Edward Weston and see his original darkroom. Then listen to his grandson Kim talk about his photographic heritage workshops and his own highly collected traditional Black-and-White work. To many, Black-and-White is the very definition of photography. In addition to a series of tutorials on digital Black-and-White printing, we are honored to present in-depth interviews from two photographic icons (John Sexton) who work with traditional Black-and-White tools. Their incredible insight provides inspiration to us all as we celebrate the Black-and-White print, be it traditional or digital". Thank you Dano!

All That Glitters is Not Gold - Phoenix Art Museum

Kim Weston - Nude and PalmA newly acquired Kim Weston - 8x10 Platinum Photograph "Nude and Palm" is  currently being shown in a group exhibition at the Phoenix Art Museum. The show runs from November 1, 2014 to March 1, 2015.

Overview

Gold – one of the most precious metals – is often considered the standard by which other valuables are compared. In photography however, many consider the platinum process to be the most exquisite and luxurious. Expensive to produce platinum prints are coveted for the luscious matte surface texture, subtle range of tones, delicate rendering of the image, and beautiful colors (from a cool, slate grey to rich, warm browns).

Patented in 1873, platinum prints (and their close cousin, palladium prints) have been produced nearly constantly, right to the present. At different stages in the medium’s history, the platinum process has been used to achieve different artistic goals. All that Glitters is Not Gold: Platinum Photography from the Center for Creative Photography presents platinum photographs from the collection of the Center for Creative Photography, including works by Edward Weston, Margrethe Mather, William E. Macnaughtan, Peter Henry Emerson, Dick Arentz and more. They are organized chronologically to illustrate the distinct phases of use and how photographers worked with this beautiful printing process.

For more information please visit: All That Glitters is Not Gold - Phoenix Art Museum

The exhibition is organized by the Center for Creative Photography and Phoenix Art Museum.
