Edward Weston Photos to be Auctioned at Sotheby's

Edward Weston - Pepper 30An amazing collection of Edward Weston's photographs will be auctioned off at Sotheby's on September 30, 2014. The collection contains 548 photographs taken by Edward Weston and printed by his son Cole Weston (Kim's father). We affectionately call them EW/CW's. For more information about Edward and his amazing life please visit the Edward Weston Biography - A Photographers Love of Life, an essay by Alex Nyerges.

Aside from this special collection at Sotheby's, here you can preview some of our private collection of Edward Weston photographs for sale on our website. We have other images available too. If you are looking for a particular photograph, let us know we may have what you are looking for.

It would be exciting to go to  the auction. Probably a little nerve wracking too. I believe there is going to be a catalog available. Will keep you posted if there is.

From Sotheby's site:

This single-lot sale, comprised of 548 photographs, represents the best work of Edward Weston, one of the seminal photographers in the history of the medium.  Printed by Edward’s son Cole in the decades after his father’s death, the photographs span Edward Weston’s long career and include most of his iconic images, among them shells, peppers, nudes, dunes, and portraits.  This Master Set encapsulates the full scope of Weston’s achievement in the art of photography and offers a definitive statement of his importance to the history of art in the 20th century.

2014 June Print of the Month

Kim Weston - Showered in Light

"Kim Weston - Showered in Light"

The June print of the Month was another fun one to create with Larva. The beautiful light coming in through the window. We used the same piece of sheer fabric to soften it and bring texture to the image. This is one of my favorites from the series so far.

Only 3 weeks away until our Spain Nude Photo Workshop. We still have a few openings left. Sign up now for one of the most amazing photographic adventures of your life!

"Kim Weston - Thoughts for the Day"

The May print of the Month was a fun one to create with Larva. We both loved the location. The ascending stairwell with great light coming in the window off of the landing. To catch the light we used some very sheer fabric tumbling down the stairs. This softened the hard edge of the steps and added more mystery to the scene.

Kim Weston - A Bird in Hand

"Kim Weston - A Bird in Hand"

I always look for the light when I photograph. And when I set up a photography shoot during a workshop I am often thinking of metaphors between the model and some other object or her surroundings. I do this to tell my story.

In this photograph I am using the painting of the bird, for me this symbolized the bird being caged. Hanging the material from the window, having the model behind the veil or lace, longingly looking out the window, symbolizes her being trapped, like a bird in a cage. I enjoy traveling to teach workshops. I used to build all of my sets now I primarily shoot on location.

Our european (summer) nude photography workshop will be held in Spain this year. Starting out in Madrid and traveling down the coast and back. We will be staying in castles and visiting palaces. This is the perfect backdrop for me. Just as it was when we taught a photography workshop at Hospitalfield in Arbroath, Scotland. Maybe you can join us! Check it out!

Kim Weston - Transition of Light

"Kim Weston - Transition of Light"

One of the best features of photographing nude models on the ranch in Wyoming was the play of light that came in through the windows. Working with these models, who were very comfortable in their space and with each other was a great flowing experience. Even with planning out the photo shoot, there comes a time where things just fall into place and your vision connects with your camera and you make good art. This happened to me while I was photographing with my RB67 camera at our photography workshop last summer.

2014 February Print of the Month

Kim Weston - Wyoming Morning (Nude)

Kim Weston - "Wyoming Morning - Nude"

Kim Weston’s new 2014 POM series will be photographs that he created at The Nude in Landscape Workshop last summer at the YL Boyer Ranch in Wyoming. He studied, planned and gave his models homework before they started photographing. Since they were there for a week it gave them plenty of time to get a feel for the area, light and atmosphere of the ranch.

Kim believes this portfolio is his best work yet.

Kim Weston - Pending Storm

Kim Weston's "Pending Storm" is the final photograph to make up the 2013 Print of the Month Portfolio. This image was taken during the Nude in the Landscape Workshop, co taught with Mark Comon at the YL Boyer Ranch in Savery, Wyoming.

Some of you may have seen that we will be raising the prices on Kim's images starting January 1, 2014. We want you the collectors to know how we much we value your collections. The new prices will reflect the value of his work and the many years that Kim has been making his photographs - getting close to 40 years.

Many of Kim's favorite images like Nude in Cactus, Nude in Window, Calla Lilies and Zach with Kite will not be available in the original 8x10 contact photograph size. Only the 8x10 size will be retired. Two other sizes will be available for now, 11x14 and 16x20.

The 2001 Print of the Month Portfolio has a wonderful collection of Kim's images. It is the first portfolio that we made. The complete portfolio is still available for purchase. How many of these portfolios have been made? Maybe 8 - 10. They contain some of Kim's most recognized images. A true representation of his work in the 1990's.

Kim is an internationally known artist with over 30 years of photographing the fine art nude. Not only is he an exceptional artist, he is a an amazing photography teacher. Sharing his knowledge and passion with so many students these past several years. He tirelessly shares our house (where his grandfather Edward Weston lived the last 20 years of his life) and welcomes strangers in to see the darkroom. He loves to show his photographs and the work of his family. And most recently our son Zach.
