All That Glitters is Not Gold - Phoenix Art Museum
A newly acquired Kim Weston - 8x10 Platinum Photograph "Nude and Palm" is currently being shown in a group exhibition at the Phoenix Art Museum. The show runs from November 1, 2014 to March 1, 2015.
Overview
Gold – one of the most precious metals – is often considered the standard by which other valuables are compared. In photography however, many consider the platinum process to be the most exquisite and luxurious. Expensive to produce platinum prints are coveted for the luscious matte surface texture, subtle range of tones, delicate rendering of the image, and beautiful colors (from a cool, slate grey to rich, warm browns).
Patented in 1873, platinum prints (and their close cousin, palladium prints) have been produced nearly constantly, right to the present. At different stages in the medium’s history, the platinum process has been used to achieve different artistic goals. All that Glitters is Not Gold: Platinum Photography from the Center for Creative Photography presents platinum photographs from the collection of the Center for Creative Photography, including works by Edward Weston, Margrethe Mather, William E. Macnaughtan, Peter Henry Emerson, Dick Arentz and more. They are organized chronologically to illustrate the distinct phases of use and how photographers worked with this beautiful printing process.
For more information please visit: All That Glitters is Not Gold - Phoenix Art Museum
The exhibition is organized by the Center for Creative Photography and Phoenix Art Museum.

Kim Weston Photography Archive
Today I am updating the Kim Weston Archive section on the website. It's a simple way to view many of Kim Weston's photographs at once. It took months of researching themes to find one that fit my need for simplicity and ease, with a fresh modern look. I also needed one that you can view on your smartphone or tablet. More....
Nude Workshop in Andalusia, Spain
Just sitting back in our patio with a few minutes to reflect on our Spain and France adventure. I managed to develop 75 rolls of film. That’s only 750 frames and I bracket my exposures. Maybe we are talking 300 photographs, with many being group shots and fun exposures. We are talking 200 photos for 3 weeks.
This adventure that Miguel Soler-Roig, Gina and I came up with over drinks at Paris Photo 2013 was a far in the future idea. When Miguel said it was a go he had secured the locations and lodgings, the workshop became like a time lapse photo of a rose bud opening. We wanted 2 of our models to accompany us, Larva and Sara. Miguel, Gina and I agreed. To go that far and not to have models that I knew and who could work with our students that may not have ever photographed nudes before, Sara and Larva were a must.
Back to Spain, it’s hard to even define the work that Miguel and Gina did to pull this off. But I must say it was the greatest life-changing workshop I have ever experienced. I was not only with Miguel a teacher, but a participant in a life changing experience, through the culture, history, cuisine, friendships and artistic work.
The whole trip boils down to one of our last nights together around the dinner table maybe 1:30 or 2:00 am. We all looked into each other’s souls remembering this crazy 7 days we spent together as a family of artists, a family of friends. And we realized this would never happen again. With great comfort we understood what just happened. Miguel rose his glass and said, “Who is up for next year?” We all cheered and signed up. For next time old friends, new ones we will make a completely new adventure. More to come about our adventures to Jaen, Ronda, Granada, Sotogrande, Seville and Arles.....
Spain Workshop and THE RENCONTRES D'ARLES 2014
Our 2014 Spain Andalusia Workshop with Miguel Soler-Roig was concluded one week ago. We photographed and visited so many wonderful places and stayed in paradores all over Spain. This was an experience we will never forget. Madrid, Jaén, Ronda, the Alhambra in Granada, Sotogrande, Seville and more! The weather was perfect, we brought our models Larva and Sara with us, met new friends and spent time with previous workshop participants. This was by far the best workshop locations and the best accommodations you could ask for. More photos to come.

WordPress Themes
I am in the process of upgrading our website to a responsive site! A very simple, functional, yet visually pleasing theme. I have been researching this for weeks and I think I have found a few that may work. I really like this one, The Community Palette, a site about a cool new pop up artist showcase. What an interesting, thought provoking idea. Even though this is for new emerging artists, I think its a great idea for more established artists like us. We hope we can join in or bring something like this to our community as well. Let me know if you have any ideas or want to collaborate on something.
New Blog
A big part of the newly designed site will be an added blog. Lately Kim Weston has been participating on FaceBook. Check out his site and friend him if you are inclined to do so.
This new blog will be any easy way for us to share with you. It won't replace the newsletter completely but we hope to share more news about us and the Weston Family Legacy here. The leading authority on 4 Generations of Weston Photographic Excellence. We will be sharing photos, stories, videos etc. I can't wait. I am excited on the prospect of getting some of Kim's stories out there for you to read. And making them easy to find!
Looking forward to our first photography workshop in April!
Thanks for visiting the site and keeping in touch!
Talk to you soon!
Sincerely Gina, Kim and Zach Weston
